The Party We Could've Had

the year is 2021*. Depending on who you ask the world is going or has already gone to hell. everyone’s tired. everyone’s stressed. The economy sucks. The environment and weather is getting worse. The politics are more extreme, and the streets are growing more violent by the day.

 

But the nightlife is still good if you know where to look.

 

a glimpse inside SURVIVAL, the “only club night worth caring about anymore”, the people inside it, and a split second decision between aimless friends devolving/evolving into millennial apocalypse.

The Party We Could Have was written as part of Temple University's Creative Screenwriting course in Klein College of Media and Communication's Media Studies & Production program in the Fall of 2019. In the Spring of 2020 it was added to the open script database for Producing and Directing undergrad and graduate cohorts to adapt as a narrative feature or short film.

In Spring 2020 the film was adapted by a Temple University Producing and Directing cohort as The Party We Could've Had before production was halted due to Covid-19.

In the spirit of openness and supporting accessible creative works, the original screenplay has been made available here for anyone to view, download, and adapt (as film, VN, narrative project, whatever, I don't care) under a CC BY-SA 2.0 License - in other words, as long as you give appropriate credit, indicate if changes were made from the original version, and share your work under a similar license.

a content warning: the original screenplay was written with the expectation that it would be able to pass a MPAA R rating in the United States. there is explicit mention and depiction of drug use, sexual intimacy, and strong language.
